General

Meinl produce two different takes on the bodhran. The Celtic bodhran follows a more traditional line, while the FD14IBO Irish bodhran has a more modern finish and comes fitted with an interior cross that can be gripped for more contemporary playing techniques. The frame has a 14" diameter and a 6" depth to project the traditional, warm and earthy sound provided by the goathide batter head, which can be tuned with the included key, while the damping edge suppresses any unwanted overtones.

Tradition & Technology

The bodhran is played with the hands or with the included tipper: a double-headed beater specific to the bodhran, both ends of which can be used to strike the skin to play fast rhythmic patterns using a special wrist technique.
